If you are interested in the whole-food, plant-based lifestyle but know little about it, you must start with watching the Forks Over Knives documentary then move on to the others. At that point if you are excited about making a change, have a look at the websites and read some of the books. If you do not make it through Forks Over Knives documentary or you were board out of your mind or you thought it was fake news then you are probably not ready to start the journey.
It is always nice to have a support group of like-minded people to make the journey more enjoyable but don't make others responsible for doing your research. What works for one person may not work for you. There are so many different ways to attack this lifestyle change. You won't know what works best for you until you see what options are out there. Your willingness to investigate the data is imperative to a successful outcome (and it's really fun).
